The Kids & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center third annual pumpkin patch event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21. There will be games, prizes, pony rides, pumpkins for sale, food, a costume party, entertainment and a craft fair.

Kids & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center offers therapeutic horseback riding to special needs children and adults. Kids & Horses is a non-profit organization. More than a riding program, Kids & Horses is a philosophy that is based on the concept that every human being, regardless of their disabilities, can benefit from an equine relationship.

Kids & Horses instructors have seen non-verbal students say their first word on the back of the horse - often "Walk on" to get the horse to move, improvement in student's ability to walk and strength in their other muscles and major behavioral improvements that carry over in their day-to-day lives.

Last year's event was very successful and Kids & Horses is hoping to exceed last year's profit. In doing this, they will need assistance from the community, in the form of volunteers, prizes for our carnival games, raffle items, food and beverages. This year Kids & Horses will be trying something new, adding a craft fair to the pumpkin patch. There is still availability if interested in having a craft or art booth.

Kids & Horses operates completely from donations: corporate contributions, grants, private donations and fundraisers. Fifty percent of student riders are on full scholarships.

Kids & Horses would like to form a fundraising committee, that will aid fundraising efforts.

Contact Nova Lomadue at Kids & Horses, 267-1775, if interested in assisting or setting up a 10-foot by 10-foot craft booth.
