The Douglas offense did what it does best and the defense did what it does best as the Tiger boys' soccer team thumped Hug High School 6-1 Saturday at Douglas High in the team's first home game in two weeks.
Mike Gransbery scored three goals to improve his region-leading season total to 18 and his career total to 49, placing him seventh on the NIAA all-time list and fifth on the Nevada 4A list.
His season total has him tied for 15th all-time and eighth in the 4A with 10 regular-season games still remaining.
"Mike is turning out to be quite a phenomenon this year," Douglas coach Milko Vasquez said.
For the season, Douglas has outscored its opponents 51-14.
Edgar Arceo, Michael Barnes and Eddie Vega each had assists on Gransbery's goals as Vega improved his team-leading total to seven.
Kyle Mannschreck sent a long ball in to Oscar Gonzalez in the 37th minute for Gonzalez's fifth goal of the season.
Arceo scored his ninth goal, on an assist from Gonzalez and Dustin Goldade scored his first goal of the season, getting Mannschreck's second assist of the game.
Vasquez praised the play of Jose Alacaraz in net, and Ray Kaffer, Geoff Rahe and Mannschreck on defense.
Brian Jaggard and Jeff Hulsey played well off the bench and Ross Gardner had another standout game in the middle for the Tigers.
The junior varsity squad beat Hug 3-1.
Douglas (9-2, 3-2) travels to Reno today for a 3 p.m. game and hosts Wooster Saturday at 1 p.m.
