Jury selection begins this morning in Minden in the case against Justin Ready, 25, a Bay area man accused of slashing two security guards at Harrah's last year.

Ready claims he struck out in self defense because he was being ejected from Club Altitude with excessive force.

The trial is expected to take four days.

Fire restrictions are being lifted on state and federal land starting 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

Despite that, campers are still required to have a permit to build a campfire in the Carson and Bridgeport ranger districts.

It's still dry out there, they say, so be particularly careful with fire.

Friends of Ted and Katie O'Neill are sponsoring a fund-raiser for them 1-4 p.m. on Saturday at the Orchard House in Genoa.

Host Randy Falcke said there will be live music and barbecue and people can donate what they can.

For those who can't make it to Genoa on Saturday, an account has been established on the couple's behalf at U.S. Bank.

Donations may be made at any branch to account number 1537542186392.
