Platform: This is a key moment in time for Douglas County. With the 10-year update of the master plan, we are in the midst of defining our future and coming to consensus on critical issues involving our quality of life, our environment, our economy and most importantly, managing our growth. As Chair of the Planning Commission, I have never been more encouraged than by the public's participation in this update process during the last year and I am truly motivated to help bring our community together and build a positive future.
The job of county commissioner is a job we do together. It is about how "we the community" achieve our goals throughout a process of access, inclusion and involvement. My education, my public service record, my hands-on knowledge of the master plan and my business experience have equipped me to help resolve the issues we now face-preserving agriculture, balanced growth, beneficial uses of our water resources, economic vitality, open space and land use, traffic, housing and zoning.
An effective county commissioner will listen to all citizens, understand all perspectives and then try to make the most appropriate decisions-which has been my approach to problem-solving on the planning commission. I have been energized by the community's input over the past four years. I believe in a bottoms-up democracy with full public participation. While realizing the democracy is a messy affair, I am encouraged by the creative solutions which emerge from the process.
I want to move forward with a positive momentum as your county commissioner. I offer a dedicated effort to help protect, preserve and enhance our county. I will be a full-time county commissioner, accessible to all, with no ties to any special interest group. Together we can accomplish what we want for a better future for our families, our economy and our environment.
Since moving to Tahoe in the late '70s and to Douglas County in 1991. I have been a community activist working to improve the quality of life. I want to help provide vision and determination in building the public-private partnership necessary to benefit us economically while protecting our incredible Lake Tahoe, our magnificent mountains, our beautiful valley and our special way of life.
