A specially constructed dog pound has been made for this year's second annual "It's a DAWG's Day" animal awareness event to take place on Saturday.

Local celebrities will be howling to get out of their cage, as the public is asked to help raise their bail so they can spring the DAWG Pound, new this year at the event at the Douglas County Fairgrounds indoor pavilion. Volunteers who will be impounded are Kelly Kite, Dan Holler, Marsha Tommerlin, Bobby Wartgow, Larry Winking, Terrie Q. Sayre and Renee Harrington.

The Douglas Animal Welfare Group's second annual Dawg Day Event will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds on Pinenut Road in Gardnerville.

Event organizers said that well-mannered pets on leashes are welcome to attend and take advantage of a microchip/vaccination clinic, an animal behavior specialist, pet photographer, an animal caricaturist, a pet psychic and games for pets and their owners.

Other fundraising activities included in the day are a silent auction, pet adoptions by DAWG, Entertainment books, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, face painting, food and refreshments and many vendors.

Participating vendors include DAWG, Critter Junction & LaundraMutt, Canine Creations, Pet Chef Express, Eastern Sierra Feed, Terri Jay - Pet Psychic, Quail Ridge Animal Hospital, DAWG Pound, Critter Connection, Horses Galore, Pet Sitters Plus, Daisy's Doggie Delights, Aussie/Border Collie Rescue, Paul's Pet Food Express, The Body Shop at Home, Home Interiors & Gifts, Shady Grove Coffee Co., M.J. Archer Photography, Pretentious Poodle, caricaturist and Little Black Dress Jewelry.

Proceeds benefit the animals at the Douglas County Animal Shelter.
