After ripping through their Sierra League slate with rarely a hiccup, the Douglas High School girls' tennis team ran into a wall against top-seeded Reno.
The Huskies blew through the first round 6-0 and didn't look back, taking a 15-3 victory at Douglas Tuesday afternoon.
The doubles teams of Amanda Lugone-Madison VanderByl, Lauren Seymour-Sarah Barnhill and Kristy Jilk-Cesarina Ceglia each picked up one victory for the Tigers, but that was it for the team's scoring on the day.
Reno swept the singles' bracket and more than half of the doubles' bracket before Douglas came back to win three of the last four matches of the day.
Douglas traveled to Carson for its regular-season finale Thursday and will be on the road next week for the opening round of the regional team playoffs.
BOYS
Douglas was able to give perennial power Reno a closer match than it has in recent years, but the end result remained the same.
The Huskies powered to a 13-5 win over the Tigers in Reno Tuesday afternoon, despite the Tigers picking up four wins in the singles' bracket.
Robert Shawhan won twice but lost only his second match of the year, a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Jeff Mullen - the No. 2 seed out of the Sierra League last season, in the opening round.
Matt McLaughlin picked up a 6-0 win in the third round and James McLaughlin won his fourth match of the year, 6-3 in the third round.
Spike Neri and Andrew Soloman accounted for the Tigers' only doubles victory of the day, a 6-4 win in the last round. The duo is 13-8 on the year.
Douglas hosted Carson Thursday afternoon. The results of both the boys' and girls' matches will be in Sunday's R-C.
