Tenacity, a U18 girls' soccer team made up of Carson Valley and Carson City athletes, recently won the Sagebrush Start Up Tournament championship with three wins, no losses and one tie.
The team opened with a 1-1 tie against the TNT Blast and followed that with a 4-0 win over the SSC Momentum.
The Tenacity took a 3-0 win over Ajax United and finished with a 3-0 win over the Carson Valley Soccer Club Riptide.
"We were very pleased with the level of play by the kids, especially this early in our season," Tenacity coach Ralph Johnson said. "Defensively, we were solid giving up only one goal all weekend. Our midfield worked hard to control play and was effective at both ends of the field. Our strikers pressured our opponents all weekend, breaking through to either score or assist numerous goals."
The team consists of Allison Andraski, Samantha Perry, Samantha Johnson, Katarina Von Rumpf, Gwen Swift, Jessica Cervenak, Rachel Van Roy, Morgan LeFever, Krista Wisbar, Danielle Rumbaugh, Michelle Kop, Caitlin Hasty, Delaney Battista, Justine Von Rumpf, Anna Macquarie, Melissa Moline and Lydia Peri.
The team is coached by Ralph Johnson and Doug Benamati.
CV Net Rippers
The Carson Valley Net Rippers won their division of the Sagebrush Startup Tournament as well.
The Net Rippers took down familiar foe Carson Madness 3-1 in the championship game.
In the final, Kaelin Mejia began the scoring by beating a charging keeper off the dribble and sent a shot into the open net.
The Madness scored on a corner kick a few minutes later, but Alex Laing beat two defenders several minutes later and fired a shot into the upper left corner from 20 yards out to put the Net Rippers up 2-1.
Mejia made a one-touch finish off of a cross from Tia Lyons with about 10 minutes left in the game for the final score.
Carson Valley opened up qualifying play with a decisive 8-0 win over the Sparks Synergy and a 3-2 win over an older Mammoth Storm team.
The Net Rippers controlled possession for most of the match as they defeated the RSU Crush 4-0 in the semifinals.
Carson Valley received stellar play on the defensive side of the field throughout the tournament, giving up three goals in four contests.
The group was led by Cora Moody, Rochelle Seymour, Shannon Hubbard and Alison Chambon. Keepers Brianna Randall and Jenna Geyer split time in the net throughout the weekend.
The Net Rippers began league play Monday at Carson Valley Middle School.
