It took a little longer than an hour to extinguish a fire in the attic of the Topaz Lodge last night. Reporter Jonni Hill, who was on the scene, said the fire was extinguished by 7:11 p.m. Employees reported smelling smoke and the casino was evacuated. No one was injured in the fire.

The Minden town board will review possible rate increases for trash collection and water tonight at its regular meeting. Also on the agenda, is a request for financial support for the a downtown Minden arts festival June 30 through July 1 as part of Magico and a request to purchase 7.84 acre feet of water rights for use by seven single family homes off Vicky Lane between Porter and South Santa Barbara drives.

The town board meets 6 p.m. in the CVIC Hall.

Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District trustees are meeting at 6 p.m. tonight to discuss their tentative budget for the next year. Also on board is a contract bid for the year's street projects. Ranchos trustees meet 6 p.m. at their office on Mitch.

It will be warm today under partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s. There'll be a cool-down over the weekend, but no moisture. The high temperature will dip back into the 60s.
