A growth control ordinance was introduced by Douglas County commissioners on Thursday night. While the numbers could change, the county was leaning toward approving a 2 percent compounded growth rate. There's a lot more to this, so stay tuned today and we'll get a more detailed account out later.
Wondering where the April showers were? Well they'll be arriving with a bang over the Easter weekend, kicking off with isolated thunderstorms today. There is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms, starting at about 11 a.m. and going into the evening. Easter will see similar weather. On Tuesday next week, there will also be a chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Keep a weather eye out for wildfires in the mountains this weekend. It's dry enough that a lightning strike could set a fire. During our drought years, it isn't out of character for the occasional wildfire in April, with chances increasing as the moisture content drops. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports we're in severe drought conditions and that condition is expected to persist or intensify through June.
Those Gardnerville residents who slept late this morning should remember to reset their clocks. The power was out to the Church and Spruce streets neighborhood this morning. Monday may see the beginning of major work to bury the cat's cradle of utility lines that have decorated our town's skyline since the advent of electricity.
