There will be new principals at three Douglas County schools when school starts in fall 2007.
One position was filled with the approval of a Las Vegas educator at the meeting of the Douglas County School Board on Tuesday.
The board approved the recommendation of Kerry Pope to take the place of Carson Valley Middle School principal Dr. Nancy Evans who leaves at the end of the school year.
Pope grew up in Carson City and has an education degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Phoenix and for the past 10 years has been a teacher, dean and most recently a vice principal at Del Webb Middle School in Las Vegas.
Brian Frazier will be leaving his job as principal of Meneley Elementary School to take the position of director of grants, assessments and special programs vacated when Dr. Janice Florey retires at the end of the school year.
Another vacancy to be filled is the principal position at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School when Robbin Pedrett retires at the end of the school year.
Tuesday was the first meeting since the death of the board's vice president on March 14. A plaque was given to Connie Wennhold's husband and son, George and Aaron Wennhold in honor of her years of service on the school board.
Teri Jamin was elected vice president in Wennhold's stead at the meeting and the school district has announced the vacancy of a seat on the board of trustees.
Letters of interest are accepted until April 27 and applicants will be considered at the May 16 meeting.
Applicants are required to reside in District 6: east of East Valley Road and southern Douglas County including Double Springs, Topaz and Holbrook Junction. The appointee serves until the next general election November 2008.
