There's a frosting of snow outside and the temperature in Genoa is just below 31 degrees. According to a weather statement issued a 5:35 a.m. by the National Weather Service, a fast low pressure system moving through Western Nevada will bring the possibility of heavy snow showers. Snow may fall and melt on road surfaces only to freeze again as colder air moves in.

There are road controls in all the familiar places, including chains or snow tires required on Highway 395 south from Highway 88 to the state line, Kingsbury Grade, Highway 50 all the way around the Lake and Highway 88 over Carson Pass. Chains are mandatory for Highway 50 over Echo Summit.

So far, there aren't any accidents on Western Nevada highways, but that could change very quickly. Be sure to take extra time to get to work today and take it easy.
