The Kids Fishing Derby board and committee members selected a winner out of the 53-plus drawings submitted from children ages 3-12 from area schools.
The first-place winner was Nathan Tripp who is an 11-year-old from Carson City.
Tripp will receive a free T-shirt with his winning logo, a VIP entry ticket for admission into the derby and a $25 gift certificate to Wal-Mart.
Second place went to Leah Ramsey-Kruse, who is 5 years old and attends Meneley Elementary School.
Her drawing will appear on the Derby lapel pin.
This year's fishing derby will be on June 2 and 3.
Children ages 3 through 12 may obtain free entry tickets by completing a registration form at the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department.
Sessions for both days run from 8 to 9:30 a.m., 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Saturday also has a special needs session from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

All volunteers are required to attend a meeting at Lampe Park in the pavilion either on May 19 at 9 a.m. or May 30 at 6 p.m.
All volunteers must have a contract form completed prior to the derby.
Participating volunteers will receive a hat, a lapel pin and a free meal for the day.
Volunteers must work for a minimum of two fishing sessions.
River help volunteers under the age of 16 must have a sponsor. Sponsors are required to sign up as volunteers to work with the youth being sponsored and also must attend one of the volunteer meetings.
