Here's a news flash, the wind is blowing, and it's going to keep getting worse though the day. A cold storm out of the Gulf of Alaska is barreling toward Western Nevada, according to a special weather statement issued early this morning by the National Weather Service. The forecast calls for wind gusts of up to 55 mph today until it dies back at about 8 p.m.

There's a slight chance of scattered snow showers tonight and some pretty cold temperatures on the other side of this thing. The high on Wednesday is supposed to climb to a balmy 49 degrees. Where were these two months ago?

The trial of Ronald Smith is expected to continue Wednesday in Minden Judge Dave Gamble's courtroom. Smith, 42, is accused of sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend's son. The woman reported the abuse after allegedly finding Smith naked in her son's closet.

A jury was selected in the case on Monday.

A Topaz Ranch Estates man who held deputies at bay on Jan. 3 was given a suspended sentence on Monday. Harry Sprouse, 60, was convicted of resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon. On Monday, the Vietnam veteran who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, commended deputies for their restraint in not shooting him.
