The first-year confirmation class at St. Gall Catholic Church will be participating in a 10-mile Walk for Hunger starting 8 a.m. May 5, beginning at the Silver City RV Park located on Highway 395 and walking to the church on Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. The candidates will attend the masses the weekend before, April 28-29, asking for pledges or donations which will be given to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.
Organizers of the retreat are looking for a few parent volunteers who would be willing to position their vehicles on the roadside, about every two miles, and provide fruit and water. They may also need to provide emergency restroom transportation (especially for older walkers). Once the group arrives at St. Gall, there will be a short prayer service and then lunch. All the participants will be well fed. There is no fee for this retreat, only the desire to promote social justice within our parish and show that our youth do care about the homeless and hungry in our community.
