The Carson Valley Net Rippers girls' soccer team traveled to Boise, Idaho over the weekend and qualified for the championship game and a rematch against Boise Capital Premier - a team Carson Valley lost to in the 2006 championship 2-1.
This year, the Net Rippers gave up two early goals and were unable to get on track, taking a 5-0 loss in cold and windy conditions.
Despite the score, the Net Rippers produced a number of solid scoring opportunities throughout the game, but couldn't find the back of the net.
The highlight of the weekend came on Sunday morning as the Net Rippers faced Sparta United from Salt Lake City.
Both teams entered with two lopsided wins, but Carson Valley had the tiebreaker edge as it didn't give up a single goal on Saturday.
Down 1-0 for most of the game, the Net Rippers began pushing all 11 players forward and created a number of very strong scoring opportunities from that strategy.
With only 45 seconds remaining in the game, Alex Laing launched a bomb from 35 yards out that carried over the keeper's head and into the back of the net to tie the game and send the Net Rippers to the championship.
In Saturday's qualifying games, the Net Rippers rolled over Boise Capital Select with a 4-0 win.
Later in the day, Carson Valley faced Sawtooth United from Sun Valley, Idaho.
The first half was highlighted by Katie Dry taking a ball from deep on her own end and dribbling past three different defenders before sending a shot into the upper left corner that glanced off the bottom of the crossbar before falling into the net.
In the second half, Holly Downer produced the team's first-ever headed goal by driving a corner kick into the back of the net with her forehead. The Net Rippers added two more goals to finish another 4-0 win.
The Net Rippers' defense was outstanding all weekend with Alison Chambon, Shannon Hubbard, Rochelle Seymour, Katie Dry, Brianna Randall and Jenna Geyer all contributing to the effort.
Dry was named the team's most valuable player for the tournament.
Carson Valley is currently undefeated in the Great Basin Youth Soccer League's U13 Gold division. They have two more league matches in the next week before heading to the Comstock Shootout Tournament in Carson City April 28-29.
