Keeping the tradition of Douglas High School students receiving the best in show award, Delaney Battista's duck stamp design of a pair of mergansers was judged best in Nevada in March and will go on to the national contest.

The winner of the 2007 National Junior Duck Stamp design will be chosen in Washington, D.C., on Friday.

Delaney, 17, and her art teacher Nancy Bargman each received $100 from the Nevada Waterfowl Association.

"We've had a best in show for the past 10 years, except for one year," said Bargman who had a total of 20 students recognized in this year's duck stamp contest.

Bargman gives the stamp design as an assignment every year and said most of the entrants from her class are first-year art students.

This is Delaney's second year in Douglas art classes and she plans to study interior design at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Bargman said Delaney succeeds in a variety of assigned subjects and is motivated, hardworking and humble.

"Delaney recognizes quality work from other people and compliments the other students," said Bargman. "She has a very generous spirit to volunteer her support to classmates."
