Many people believe parenting should come naturally. Some people even believe that parenting skills are picked up as they go along with the help of family and friends. In some cases, parenting skills cannot just be "picked up." It can be very valuable to learn parenting skills in a more structured way. Children create a huge variety of demands and needs. Helpful skills such as reflective listening or positive discipline can be taught and learned to help fulfill these needs.
There is a lot of evidence to show that authoritative and positive parenting has huge benefits. Children with parents who use these skills are less likely to have behavior problems. Parents can learn more readily about these skills in our classes.
Parenting does not have to be stressful. Understanding the stages of development and why children behave the way they do, will help reduce the stress of parenting.
Whether you are interested in finding a more positive parenting style or you just have questions about changes or behaviors in your child, Family Support Council's parenting classes will help you find the answers.
Our parenting classes help you think back to how you were parented which in turn helps you reflect on how you are bringing up your children. These classes also give you a chance to meet other parents, learn how to manage stress and anger and helps you discover new skills to create a happier family life.
Family Support Council has three different parenting classes. The first is Parenting Young Children. This is a parenting class for parents of children ages 0-5.
