More than 2,900 Sierra Pacific customers from the Gardnerville Ranchos to Woodfords were without power Tuesday, after a power line at the Pine Nut substation south of Gardnerville locked out for no apparent reason, according to Karl Walquist, spokesman for Sierra Pacific Power.
"At this point we're trying to figure out what caused the problem," he said.
A bird may have been killed or a broken tree limb could have fallen on the line and bounced off, he said.
"The crew couldn't find anything, so they re-energized the line to get the customers back in service," he said.
The outage occurred about 10:45 a.m. and restored by 11:26 a.m. on Tuesday.
