Ervin F. Rost


1928-2007


No services are planned for Ervin F. Rost, 78, who died in Minden, April 20, 2007.


Mr. Rost was born Nov. 25, 1928 in Lehr, N.D. to John G. Rost and Christina Bollinger. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was employed by General Motors for 33 years. He lived in Los Angeles prior to moving to Minden 10 years ago. He was a member of the Carson Valley United Methodist Church and the American Legion.


He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. He is survived by his sisters Alice Rost, Annetta Fredrick and numerous nieces and nephews.


Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary. Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City. Memorial donations can be made to the Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville.




Craig Allen Smith


1953-2007


Craig Allen Smith, 53, a one-year resident of Topaz Ranch Estates, died April 21, 2007, at his home.


Mr. Smith was born June 7, 1953, in Binghamton, N.Y., to Jack Pershing Smith and Mildred Elizabeth Coon.


He married Debi Lynn Brown on March 27, 2002, in Gallup, N.M.


Before moving to Topaz Ranch Estates, Mr. Smith lived in Bridgeport, Calif.


He held a master's degree and worked as a teacher and jewelry artist.


He served in the U.S. Army for 21 years. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Veterans Award and the Distinguished Service Medal.


He was preceded in death by his parents and by his stepfather, Gene.


Among his survivors are his wife of Wellington; daughter Yvette Elizabeth Smith of Fullerton, Calif.; stepson David Roy Vulyak of Bridgeport; father-in-law Roy Brown of Topaz Ranch Estates; sisters Kathleen of New Jersey and Colleen of Connecticut; brothers Mark of New York, Rich of Illinois and Harry of Colorado; a niece and an aunt.


Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City. A memorial service will be held in Binghamton.


Memorial donations may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation, the Earth Day Foundation, Mono Lake and Adopt-A-Soldier.


FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
