I'm writing this at 1:40 a.m. after spending seven hours in the hearing for the Beverly Hillbillies Mansion and Casino Project, which was narrowly approved. Max Baer came away with a victory on the height of the casino towers, but he had to put off the debate of the 200-foot oil derrick and big reader board. It was a 3-2 night for Max with commissioners Kelly Kite, Nancy McDermid and Jim Baushke voting his way and commissioners Doug Johnson and David Brady voting against him. It was also a night for building records as reams of paperwork passed over the clerk's desk during the seven-hour hearing. No I'm not kidding, the hearing started at 6 p.m. and ended at 1 a.m. and there were literally reams of paper being entered into the record. Baer gave an interview to the television station at about 10:30 p.m. I'll write up a full report later today, but right now I'm posting this and going to bed.
The Weather Service has posted a fire weather watch starting Saturday afternoon thanks to a weak low pressure system arriving off the coast. Dry gusty winds of up to 30 mph will hit Saturday and the humidity will begin to drop on Friday. Right now it's so dry a drunk could start a fire by breathing on a piece of sage brush, so be careful with actual spark causing activities.
