Staff Reports

Shady Grove Coffee Co. in Gardnerville has new operators and a new name.

Brothers Stefan and Micah LeVal have purchased the business and redubbed it Antioch Coffee Co.

The change was effective July 15 after the brothers spent quite a while being trained by previous owner John Luoma.

The Luomas started the business in the winter of 2005. The building was built in 1945 and has been several things over the years, including Sierra Dojo.

Micah LeVal said the business is doing well.

"We specialize in fair trade, shade grown and organic coffee," he said. "We're all about the community and we believe in cleanliness, friendliness and quality."

The people who come into the shop enjoy the small town atmosphere, LeVal said.

"People who come into the place seem to desire a sense of community," he said. "They want to know the owner, have a conversation or sit here and hang out. Coffee is the perfect medium for any situation."

The business features free Internet and is open and the brothers are planning to add deli sandwiches to the menu.
