Rite of Passage hosted its annual Run, Ride, Swim, Survive event last week, drawing some of the top students from Rite of Passage schools around the region.

The event annually brings students together for a mega-triathlon of sorts with a run up the back and down the front of Jobs Peak, and a 14-mile bike ride to Ferris Park in Minden, formerly known as Bently Science Park.

Students from each participating school also compete in a swimming event at the Carson Valley Swim Center. A number of other events, including Ultimate Frisbee, a three-mile cadence run, a 5/20 calisthenics competition and team relays, were contested at the park.

Rite of Passage invites teams from every site including Ridge View Academy (Colorado), Canyon State Academy (Arizona), Silver State Academy (Nevada), Sierra Ridge Academy (California) and Varsity Qualifying houses in California and Nevada.

Sierra Ridge ended up winning the James McKenry Trophy for scoring the most points out of all of the events.

Group leader Cotton and coach Gomez led the team to wins in a number of the events.

Silver State took second and Ridge View took third. Approximately 60 students competed in the event with three staff members accompanying each team.
