The Carson Valley soccer community is rallying together to help out one of its own this weekend.
Jessica Vega, a ninth-grader to be at Carson Valley Middle School, was stricken with Guillain-Barre syndrome in the spring. She was paralyzed from the knees down, but is said to be recovering well.
After an extensive stay in the hospital, the medical bills have begun to pile up.
Vega has been playing soccer in the Valley for more than 10 years and the people she's played for and with over the years are putting on a micro six tournament to raise funds to help offset her medical bills.
Teams will be four to six players split into age groups for athletes 10 and up and games will be 4-on-4 with no goalies.
The tournament will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Stodick Park.
Cost per team will be $60
Because the tournament will not be sanctioned by either AYSO or Carson Valley Soccer Club, participants will need to have a signed release of liability form.
Rosters and liability forms are available at www.ayso318.org.
