Smoke that rolled into Carson Valley Thursday evening is from a 100-acre fire at Niagra Creek near Highway 108 that started when a cabin caught fire 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Stanislaus National Forest Spokesman Jerry Snyder said firefighters have a line around the fire, but that it is still burning in heavy timber.

"You will continue to get some smoke and an increase in wind speeds today may cause more drift smoke."

The privately owned cabin under a permit to be on federal land was destroyed. Fire officials don't have a cause of the fire yet.

Air tankers, helicopters and structure engines are working the fire.

The fire is just outside Alpine County's southwestern border. It is located due west of Bridgeport.
