Our family would like to say thank you to the community of Douglas County. On Aug. 5, you all came together to make our son's world a little brighter. OK, let's be honest here, it was a lot brighter, hugely so. James' life is being cut short by that horrible disease that is ravaging his body. The first tumor he had, back in January 2006, the doctors were able to eradicate with chemo and radiation. His cancer (Rhabdomyosarcoma) was rare for someone his age and they treated it very aggressively, so aggressive that he almost died.

They told us with this new tumor, (diagnosed July 2, 2007), treatment with chemo or radiation was not an option because it would end his life immediately. Without treatment, he would have more time. Time to go home and spend his days with the people he loves, doing the things he's always wanted to do. On Sunday, our family was graced by the presence of the people of our wonderful town and they made James' dreams a reality. How, as his parents, can we extend the amount of gratitude we feel towards all of you? Thank you seems so small. We would like to mention a few people who have earned our deepest gratitude and will forever be remembered in our family. Barton Hospice Chaplain Willis Broughton, the lady who put the wheels in motion, making this day happen. Vicky at Changes Salon, for opening her doors and her heart to someone she's never even met, and then having the courage to give a very nice haircut to a very particular young man in front of a full audience, (and for saving a curl for Mom and Dad). Barton Hospice Nursing staff, for being onsite and making sure James was safe and sound while enjoying his day. Sheriff Ron Pierini and the rest of the DCSO staff for extending the warmest and most heartfelt acceptance to their newly appointed "Deputy Sheriff James Lamb". Captain Mike Biaginni, for being James' "Partner" for the day and giving him the ride that he has always dreamed of taking, lights and all. The members of the Gardnerville Ranchos VFD , for lending their support and being present to help with hands on attention. Coach Ernest Monfiletto, James' biggest fan and one of the best pep talkers, no matter the subject, ever known to mankind. Coach's beautiful wife, Jill ... behind every great man, stands an amazing woman. Pastor Pete Nelson of The Carson Valley United Methodist Church for giving the day's Blessing. Chaplain Zammit of the NYPD, for making a special phone call to James during his ride with Capt. Biaggini. To the R-C staff for covering this event with dignity and respect.

Finally, the biggest thank you goes to the young men and women of the Douglas High School Athletics department. The fighting Tigers. I don't know if you will ever realize the true joy and happiness each and every one of you brought to James on this day. We had not seen him smile the way he did when he saw you guys for a very long time. For that simple reason, we will hold each of you in our hearts forever. Just know, that each time you step out onto the field, James will be there to support you in spirit, like your own personal "Tiger Guardian Angel."
