The family of the teenager who overdosed on Saturday is setting up a hotline for folks who want to track his progress. The number is (775) 742-8343. The plan is to update the message as his condition changes, according to his aunt. These folks are being flooded with phone calls about the 16-year-old and its getting hard for them to deal with them and quash the rumor mill. I've called it this morning and it's not quite ready to go. I'm sure the first message will be up soon, so be patient.

Tuesday's Power Dam fire is now just a big black spot on the side of Jakes Hill, but it is a warning of how quickly a fire can spread in the light dry fuels that cover every square foot that people aren't irrigating. This summer has been very dry after an exceedingly dry winter. The weather service reports Minden received no moisture in July at all. That's way less than the quarter-inch we're supposed to have during the month.

A fire weather watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Thursday as a low pressure system nears the Pacific Coast. The watch begins Thursday afternoon with west winds 15-25 mph with gusts of 30 mph through the evening. Gusts over the ridges could hit 60 mph. Low humidity will make for dangerous firefighting conditions. The good news is that high temperatures are going to drop below the 90s again and stay there until Tuesday. At present it is 55 degrees in Genoa.

I hear the Douglas County Planning Commission got hung up on the 12-foot fence for the football field and in the end decided to continue the matter. We'll have further updates on what happened at the meeting, including the Valley Bar, as the day continues.
