The Carson Valley Conservation District awarded three students with scholarships for attending Nevada Youth Range Camp, which helped them acquire information and experience relating to agriculture, natural resources and bio-technology.
Kali Evanson received special recognition for being the first runner up in the trail boss competition. She is the alternate for the State of Nevada to attend the Society for Range Management's Annual International Convention in Kentucky.
The first range camp was held in 1976. Since its inception, about 1,000 students have attended Range Camp. The current location of Range Camp is in Lander County, near Austin on Big Creek in the Toiyabe Mountain Range. Up to 45 students statewide, ages 11-18, can be accepted to the camp.
The local conservation district typically sponsors a student or students by paying the camp fee.
The Range Camp is sponsored by the Nevada Section of the Society for Range Management, the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Nevada Wildlife Federation, and the Nevada Chapter of Soil and Water Conservation Society.
