A late afternoon wildland fire off Pine Nut Road quickly grew to four acres and threatened residences in the heavily-forested area.
At 5:30 p.m., officials said four air tankers were en route.
The fire was originally reported at 2960 Pine Nut Road, a home owned by Paul Twichell.
Officials closed off Pine Nut Road at Highway 395 to allow emergency vehicles into the remote area near the Douglas County Landfill and fairgrounds.
Friday's fire was the second in four days. Seventy acres burned near the old power dam on Tuesday.
