Town hall meeting very informative
On Tuesday, Aug. 14, Sheriff Rick Scholl and Deputy Coroner Ralph Obenberger held a most informative meeting for the residents of the Antelope Valley, regarding transporting human remains over the state line to a mortuary in Nevada. There are details still to be worked out with Nevada's State Funeral Board, but we are getting very close to enabling this to happen. Unfortunately, the fire south of Gardnerville closed Highway 395 that afternoon, so the representatives from FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home and Barton Memorial Hospital Hospice were unable to get to the meeting. It was a very interesting session and one we will keep up with as the plan moves to fruition.
Meeting regarding highway changes
This meeting will take place next Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the Walker Community Center, 4-7 p.m. They will discuss their proposal for changes to Highway 395 around Topaz Lake. Since we all have doctor appointments, grocery shopping, etc., to do in the area to our north, it is something that will affect us, especially during the time of construction. Please come, ask questions, and give your opinion.
U.S. Forest Service
proposal
The U.S. Forest Service has a proposal out for fuels mitigation at the Mountain Warfare Training Center's project site south of the Antelope Valley. It outlines their plans for removal of trees, etc., by fire, mechanical or hand removal, as well as firewood sales. You can get further information by calling Bridgeport Ranger District Fuels Specialist Annamaria Echeverria at (760) 932-5810. They are soliciting your comments, so don't hesitate to make them.
Fire equipment for bid
Last week, my happy little fingers typed the wrong phone number to contact the Antelope Valley Fire Department for bid procedure and vehicle information. It should be (530) 495-2900. I'm sorry for any problem that might have caused anyone.
This and that
-- Coleville High School's football and volleyball seasons begin this Saturday, Aug. 25. The girls will play volleyball at 11 a.m., and the boys' football is at 1 p.m. Let's start the year out by rooting them home as winners.
-- The school year begins Tuesday, Aug. 28. Be very careful on the highway by the schools, and please obey the speed limit, especially during school hours.
With the school year beginning, we start to realize that summer is coming to a close, and things will start to become busier again in the Valley. Be sure to enjoy the rest of the mild weather and plan for the cooler weather to come.
