Today is the first day of school for Douglas County elementary school students and the little tykes will be walking to school or waiting at bus stops all over the county.
It won't be long before the secondary schools begin. The opening game for Douglas High's football season is at home Friday against the Reed Raiders.
The high school and both middle schools will start on the following Monday. That means the school zones on both Highway 88 and Highway 395 will fire up.
Students will be walking to school across both of the Valley's major transportation arteries.
We're betting the sheriff's office will be keeping a close eye on traffic at both locations, so motorists take heed and slow down.
And that doesn't just apply to the major highways. A major roadway passes by every school in the county and children will be walking along all of them.
The beginning of school brings with it a sense of renewal.
Time to set aside summer daydreaming and go back to work.
