The barbecue fundraiser for the therapeutic equestrian program Kids & Horses is 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Crystal Bay Club, North Lake Tahoe.
The 8th annual fundraising event includes a Western barbecue, raffle prizes, silent and live auctions and a Star Search-style competition.
Crystal Bay Club owners Roger and Elise Norman donated the use of the Crown Room and the outside patio for the event. Brimm's A Catering Company and Austin's Restaurant will prepare dinner.
Kids & Horses, Inc. is located on the Double W Ranch, 2869 Esaw Lane off Stephanie Way in Minden, and is a member of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association created to work mainly with children, although 20 percent of students are adults.
Founded in April 1999, the Kids & Horses program offers horsemanship as a means of therapy to improve balance, strength, coordination, and self-esteem which leads to breakthroughs in self-actualization and individual freedom.
Tickets for the barbecue, $30 adults, $15 children, may be purchased at the door.
