Fans of Thai food in the Carson Valley area will be happy to know that a new restaurant, Thai Jasmine, will open its doors for business sometime in mid-September.
Located next to Coyote Grill, Thai Jasmine hopes to capitalize on adventurous taste buds roaming Gardnerville.
"I want to show my country through our food," said La-Eard Chongolnee, one of two partners opening the restaurant.
Chongolnee grew up in Thailand, and came to the U.S. when she was 19 years old. She spent 11 years at different schools, eventually earning a Ph.D. in School and Business Administration from Iowa State University. After college, she moved back to Thailand where she worked as a professor and real estate developer for 24 years. When her children moved to the U.S. for college, Chongolnee followed.
"I love this country for two reasons: Education and hard work," Chongolnee said.
For the last four years, Chongolnee has been operating a restaurant in Incline Village, called Thai Recipe.
Impressed with its success, Chongolnee decided to team up with another Thai immigrant, Saiyut Parent of Genoa, and open a Thai restaurant in Carson Valley.
Chongolnee said Thai Jasmine will offer 61 different dishes, including vegetarian and seafood varieties.
