The Carson Valley Sertoma club installed new officers June 19 at Genoa Lakes Country Club: Pat Smith, president; Barry Smith, president-elect; Richard Cropper, chairman of the board; Bob Centanni, vice president of sponsorship; Donna Schehl, vice president of fundraising; Cindy Petersen, vice president of membership; Nancy Humphries, secretary; Phil Donahue, sergeant-at-arms and Norm Svensrud, treasurer. Several directors were also installed to assist the vice presidents in their duties.
In addition to the installation dinner, Sertoma held a scholarship reunion breakfast at Sharkey's Casino on June 15, Cindy Petersen organized bingo at the senior center in July, raffle tickets for a snow flower quilt made by Bobbie Cropper and Audrey Nelson are being sold for an Oktoberfest raffle, a Web site was created by new member Jay Gunsauls and a MoFa social in honor of both Mother's and Father's Days was held. Members also provided food and drink at the Antique Tractor Show on Aug. 18 and 19.
Sertoma's entry was the winning duck in Carson Valley Community Food Closet's Wacky Waddler Wivver Wace and the trophy is displayed at Friday morning meetings.
Though summer may be drawing to a close, the work of Sertoma continues. There was a bingo game to benefit Austin's House on Sept. 1 and more bingo games will be held Oct. 6 and Dec. 1. Sertoma Oktoberfest is Sept. 23 in Heritage Park in Gardnerville.
Sertoma, SERvice TO MAnkind, is a community service club where monies raised at events is returned to the community in various ways. Sertoma has contributed to hearing aids, youth programs, Boys & Girls Club, Carson Valley Community Food Closet, Douglas Animal Welfare Group, City of Refuge and Austin's House.
Anyone may attend Sertoma weekly meetings 6:30 a.m. Fridays at Sharkey's.
