The Douglas High boys' soccer team opened its season with four consecutive wins on the road while outscoring its opponents 12-2 at the Elko Tournament over the weekend.
The Tigers picked up a 2-0 win over Dayton, a 6-0 win over White Pine and twin 2-1 wins over Spring Creek and Elko.
Eddie Vega led the team with four goals and six assists and Jeff Crozier scored four goals, including two nice headers against Spring Creek.
Sophomore Edgar Arceo had two goals and an assist and Oscar Gonzalez and Brian Randall each had a goal as well.
Ross Gardner, Geoff Rahe, Kyle Gardner and Robby Forest each turned in one assist.
Douglas coach Milko Vasquez praised the play of the defense, noting Austin Shick, Kyle Garnder, Dustin Goldade, Randall and Rahe for their play.
Keeper Jose Alcaraz posted shutouts in each of the first two games.
The Tiger girls' team went 1-2 at the Galena Tournament, opening with an impressive 2-0 victory over North Tahoe and taking defending state champion Reed to penalty kicks before losing 2-1.
Douglas wrapped up the tournament with a 2-0 setback against McQueen.
Douglas opened the year advancing to the semifinals of the Las Vegas Invitational, including upending defending regional and state champion Damonte Ranch 2-0.
