Bently Pressurized Bearing Co. sponsored the International Symposium on Stability Control of Rotating Machinery 4 Conference, held at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Aug. 28-30. Company chairman and chief executive officer Donald E. Bently attended the conference.

The opening keynote address was presented Aug. 28 by Dr. Neville Rieger. Rieger, originally from Australia, is a rotor dynamicist known for his ability to solve rotating machinery problems. His paper, "Experience With Flutter Vibrations of Low-Pressure Steam Turbine Blades," was on the operation of high-speed rotating machinery such as gas turbines, steam turbines, etc. Leading machine experts and engineers from Canada, United States, Australia and many African, European, and Asian nations attend this conference to learn and share knowledge of machinery behavior. The conference has been held every two years, starting in 2001, at locations, including Lake Tahoe, Gdansk, Poland and Cleveland.

The conference culminated in an award dinner on Thursday night. The winner of the best paper at this conference, "Application of Acoustic Impulse Response in Diagnostic Tests of Rotor Blades in Stationary Conditions," was co-authored by Dr. Adam Kotowski and Professor Pawel Lindstedt of the Bialystok Technical University in Poland. They each received a plaque and a quarter ounce gold eagle coin. After the conference, many attendees and their spouses toured Banff, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.
