The R-C Morning Report

This morning Genoa will become the first Nevada town outside of the Lake Tahoe Basin to install bear-proof trash containers. A photo-op trash bin lockdown is scheduled for this morning. Meanwhile erstwhile ursines continue to stray from the forest into more populated areas of the Valley seeking forage. Minden and Gardnerville residents continue to report bear trash raids.

If we're going to get any rain this morning it shouldn't be enough to knock down the dust. There was a pretty good downpour in Gardnerville right around 4:45 p.m. with some big drops. It lasted all of 10 minutes, barely time to leave any water pooling. Genoa got about a drop of rain a minute there for a bit in the evening. It lasted long enough for me to actually debate actually rolling up the car windows. By the time I got the windows up, the rain stopped.

Today's the last day of August and frankly I thought it would never leave. Next week is a short week thanks to Labor Day and it's also meeting week. Gardnerville kicks off with a 4:30 p.m. meeting which might last all of 50 minutes, including board reports. Board members will discuss a public hearing to increase trash rates. Though I may go for town attorney Mike Rowe's annual update on the open meeting law. Genoans will hold their last meeting before Candy Dance at 7 p.m. Minden and the Gardnerville Ranchos meet on Wednesday. County commissioners gather on Thursday.
