A 22-year-old Chico, Calif., man is being held in lieu of $250,000 cash bail after he denied charges of sexual assault and kidnapping.

Dustin Casebeer was arrested Nov. 30 and booked into Douglas County Jail.

He appeared before Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl on Monday where he denied the charges and attorney Tod Young was appointed to defend him.

Casebeer told EnEarl he came to Carson Valley a few weeks ago from Chico where he was laid off from his job as a jam cook.

When asked if he understood the charges against him, he said he didn't

"I read them, but they're not true," Casebeer said.

Casebeer's bail was increased from $238,000 bondable to $250,000 after EnEarl determined he had no ties to the community.
