Tuesday, December 11 will be full of activity at the center. The Mono County Health Nurse will be there at noon, conducting a general clinic for blood pressure screening and immunizations. If you want any immunizations, call the health department at (760) 924-1830 to schedule them. The same day, lunch will be available as usual at the center, with the added enjoyment of 1st and 2nd graders from Antelope Elementary School singing Christmas carols. You should call the center at (530) 495-2323 to reserve a seat for your lunch and the music. It will be very enjoyable time, I know.
Christmas decorating
I hope you entered the home decoration contest that will be judged tomorrow evening from 7 to 9 p.m. We have some awfully talented decorators in the Valley, so it will be interesting to see who the winner is.
Christmas social
The Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce will host their Christmas social this Saturday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Reservations were needed by yesterday, but you can call (530) 495-2508 and check if there are any seats still available. The social offers dinner, Karaoke, a no-host bar and dessert raffles, with dinner costing only $10 per person.
Special postage stamp for a good cause
In 1998, a special stamp was issue to raise funds for breast cancer research. This stamp is available at the Coleville Post Office, at a cost of 51 cents. The additional 14 cents per stamp goes toward this very important research. Thus far, it has raised 58.3 million dollars for that cause; however, unless the House of Representatives approves a 4-year extension, it will be discontinued December 31st of this year. Let's support this worthy effort on behalf of all the many victims of the disease.
This and that
Last weekend, Coleville High School's basketball teams played in a tournament sponsored by the Antelope Valley Lions Club, with both doing pretty well for the first games of the year. The boys' team won the tournament, defeating Big Pine and Whittell. It was a nail-biter for the girls, with loss of the championship by only two points to Whittell. Both teams are going to have a very good year, since the only loss for either team has been to a Northern 2A school.
If your children would like to be a part of the Walker River Colorguard, please call Karla at (530) 208-6125. It is such good recreation and a confidence builder for them. There are two squads, one for ages 6 to 8 and the other for ages 9 to 18. Both boys and girls participate in this award-winning group and really enjoy it. Good news is that you don't have to live in Walker to join.
