A wind advisory is in effect for Western Nevada through 10 p.m. tonight as a storm rolls into the area. Winds of 20-25 mph are blowing through the Gardnerville Ranchos. As the sun rises so will the winds, with gusts of 60 mph expected in the foothills and 90 mph over the ridgetops. High profile vehicles should avoid north-south routes, such as highways 395 and 88. Lake Tahoe will experience heavy chop and the National Weather Service is warning that boats should be off the water today and tonight.
The good side of this storm is that there is finally some moisture in the forecast with a 20 percent chance of showers on Tuesday and an even better chance toward the end of the week.
The sentencing of a Gardnerville man who allegedly stabbed a Samaritan during an altercation in July is set for today. David E. Walmer reportedly had a knife at a woman's throat when three passers by came to her aid. It's all part of a busy morning in Douglas County District Court.
