Local man wins

prestigious FFA award

Twenty-one-year-old David Hoskin of Gardnerville won the prestigious American Degree at the national FFA convention in Indiana on Oct. 27.

The American Degree is the highest degree awarded by the FFA, formerly known as Future Farmers of America, and recognizes outstanding achievements in agricultural business production, processing and service programs.

To be eligible, members must have earned and productively invested $7,500 through a supervised agricultural experience program.

Hoskin worked for three years on a vegetable garden to qualify for the degree, and according to the FFA, less than 156 of their members advance through local and state chapters to earn the national distinction.

Hoskin recently studied diesel mechanics in Mesa, Ariz. and currently lives in Gardnerville and works for Cashman Equipment Co. in Sparks.
