It snowed in parts of the Valley last night and the National Weather Service is forecasting more heavy snow down to 4,500 feet before 10 a.m. today. The radar shows a big pulse of moisture stretching from Donner Pass all the way out to Fallon and Hawthorne. It looks like parts of Carson received up to a third of an inch of moisture in the last 24 hours. The rain gauge in Fish Springs shows .12 inches of moisture over night. The Meneley Elementary School weather station shows .11 inches between Thursday and today. Heavenly is reporting receiving 5-8 inches of new snow.
There was a property damage accident at Highway 395 and Ray May Way in the Pine Nuts at 5:54 a.m. The map of road controls looks like all the yellow stripes got one heck of a lot wider. Chains are mandatory over Interstate 80 and Highway 50. Chains or snow tires are required on Highway 88, Kingsbury Grade, Highway 395 north to Carson City and south from Minden all the way to Bridgeport. Chains or snow tires are also required from Holbrook Junction east on Highway 208 and on Highway 88 south from Minden to the state line.
The Weather Service is reporting that most of the snow on Valley roads will go to slush, so watch out for slick conditions this morning. Better to wait a bit before going to work to let the roads clear, if you can.
