Giving tree grows at Walker store

For the fourth year, this very special tree is at the Walker General Store. The past three years, our community has been so generous with their donations of the gift wishes of the children whose paper ornaments were on the tree. This year, in addition to the 48 children, there are 15 or so adults whose Christmas you can help. Your participation will help make Christmas bright for those names on the tree. This is coordinated by Mary Hussman and Chris Smith, with the help of several wonderful and generous elves on their team. Please go to the store and try to make December 25 special for so many people, young and old. This very special cause for some of our residents needs our help.

Home decoration contest

Two very creative households tied for first place this year. Last year's winners, Jerry and Becky Holden, tied with Bob and Brenda Musil. Since their decorating themes were so different from each other's, it was really impossible for the judges to declare only one home the winner. Congratulations to both homes.

Evening of Christmas music

Local piano teacher Tammy Dunn is again putting on an evening of seasonal music 7 p.m. tomorrow evening at the Walker Senior Center. Seven of her talented students will be performing traditional songs, with a couple of surprise performances that Tammy declares are not to be missed. Since I have been to one of these evenings before, I know it will be truly enjoyable for all who attend and enjoy the music and light refreshments.

Time to fish again

The fishing season at Topaz Lake begins January 1. It might be a little nippy out, but that won't stop the die-hard fishermen from trying to catch the big one and win one of the nice prizes offered by Topaz Lodge. It really is fun, and they are all champing at the bit to get back to fishing.

This and that

The Northern Mono County Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas Social was held last Saturday. Our weather of Friday and Saturday somewhat limited attendance, but there were around 70 people there to enjoy a very tasty ham dinner, raffles and auctions.

The middle school's Wolverines boys' basketball team is off to a good start this year in their Sagebrush League action. We wish them a very successful season.

After living here for a few years, I had become a little blasé about a snowfall and its effect. My mother is seeing our area for the first time, and it was wonderful to see her reaction to the snow and the beautiful view from our house. After living in a mild climate for many years, she has been very impressed with the awesome vista, as we all should be.
