A 19-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Sunday on allegations he battered his wife and mother. The next day, his 58-year-old mother was arrested for concealing items which belonged to the suspect's wife.

James Andrew Hann was jailed on $10,000 cash bail on charges of battery which constitutes domestic battery and resisting a public officer after he reportedly tried to push a sheriff's sergeant over a staircase as he was being arrested.

Hann also was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, harassment and coercion.

His mother, June Hazel Hann, was charged with grand theft and obstructing for reportedly concealing the victim's wedding ring and cell phone. Her bail is $10,000.

Hann's 20-year-old wife came to the sheriff's office with a friend on Sunday to report the alleged incident. She said her husband became enraged because she was going out with a girlfriend, pinned her on their bed, choked her, and pulled out clumps of her hair as she tried to get away.

She said he also threatened to kill her and his mother as the victim tried to call for help. She said he ripped a cell phone out of her hand.

She said he choked his mother who tried to separate the couple and threw the older woman to the floor.

The victim said Hann left the residence and she came to the sheriff's office.

When deputies arrived at the home, Hann had returned, and officers could see a marijuana pipe on a table in the living room along with marijuana.

They placed Hann in handcuffs and talked to his mother who refused to say whether she had been injured.

During the investigation, deputies heard James Hann attempting to get out his chair. As he was being taken into custody, Hann reportedly tried to push Sgt. Mark Munoz through a stair railing.

Munoz was not injured.

Deputies said Hann sprained his right thumb in the arrest.

Deputies returned to the residence Monday to help the victim retrieve belongings including her ring and cell phone which had been left on the bed the day before.

When they couldn't find the items, they questioned June Hann who at first denied knowing where they were.

She finally produced the ring, valued at $800, and the $450 cell phone.

She was charged with felony grand theft and obstructing for lying to deputies.

June Hann reportedly told officers, "I took the ring and cell phone because my son called and told me to take them."

The Hanns are to appear in East Fork Justice Court today.
