A nonprofit organization, the Douglas County Historical Building Preservation Group, was given the go-ahead by the Secretary of State, according to group member Donnis Thran.
The group works for the preservation of historical structures in Carson Valley and will operate with the Douglas County Historical Society. The goal of fundraising efforts is to purchase, restore and protect historical structures or to lease historic business buildings for purposes reflecting their past.
"I don't want to see this Valley loose our heritage like Reno did, loosing the Mapes Hotel for example," Thran said. "Our goal is to protect and restore what is left in the Valley."
One of the fundraising projects is the donation of used computer towers that can be refurbished and sold. Thran wants to reach out to businesses that are upgrading their office equipment.
"Donating their old equipment would give them a substantial tax write-off and provide much needed funds for the new preservation group."
The board of trustees is Donnis Thran, Lois Thran, Don Thran, Kay Smith and Mike Mahoney. For more information about becoming a member or making donations, contact Donnis Thran at 783-1001.
