The Douglas High girls' basketball team got nearly half of its points from the bench Friday as the Tigers powered ahead to a 57-26 win over Lowry in Minden.

The Tigers bench accounted 27 points in the game. The starters filled in the difference and the entire team contributed another strong effort on defense.

"This was just a nice team win," Douglas coach Werner Christen said. "It really started a couple of days ago in practice. We had a great practice two days ago, had another one yesterday and it carried over into tonight.

"We decided to mix some people up and the difference really showed tonight. Everyone got some good minutes and everyone did some good things. There was no drop-off when we went to the bench, absolutely none. They are making it really tough for us in terms of deciding who goes out there."

Jessica Waggoner led the Tigers with 15 points while Ally Freitas and Gina Pfaffenberger each had each. Bridget Maestretti finished with seven points and Taryn Williams and Jessica Gorton each had four.

Lisa Christen put up three and Sarah Hartley, Helen Fillmore, Katie Buffo and Sara Phillips each had two.

Douglas (7-2) opened the game up on a 9-0 run and opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run. The Tigers opened the third a 13-0 run and closed out on a 10-1 run.

"Lowry is a good 3A team too, so we were happy," Christen said. "It's not just because we were able to win, but more because of the way we played."
