Antelope Valley Lions a great service club

The Antelope Valley Lions are, to me, the epitome of what a service club should be, especially in a small area like the Valley. Their first fundraising activity of the year was their Cow Pasture Golf Tournament in early April. Since that time, they have kept very busy by participating in highway cleanup, cemetery maintenance, and cooking for numerous community activities. They served over 250 dinners at their 42nd annual Deer Hunters Barbecue, with many fundraising raffle prizes. They sponsor Easter egg hunts, Halloween school programs, the Lions Speaker Contest, college scholarships and are active in many other local causes. Needless to say, they have been very busy again this year, with their service to the Antelope Valley. To wind down the year, they hosted their Lions Club basketball tournament. All we, the residents of the Antelope Valley, can say to you is "thank you for all your effort and caring." You are great.

Recognition for our athletes

It was wonderful to open the newspaper one morning and see that almost our whole Coleville boys' football team had been honored with being named to some level of the Class 1A All-Northern Team, as selected by the league's coaches. It was also wonderful to see coach Will Sandy named as coach of the year and Jason Peters named offensive player of the year. It's nice to know that their hard work and success was rewarded by these honors. They earned them all.

Health clinic

December 28, noon to 1 p.m., Mono County's Health Department nurse will be at the Walker Senior Center for immunizations, blood pressure checks and other needs of our community. They have three reservations for the shingles vaccine, but they still need one more person to sign up before they can give the vaccination. If you haven't got your vaccination yet for this horrible disease, call (760) 924-1830 and make a reservation so that several community residents can receive it. You can also call that number for any other vaccines you want to receive.

This and that

As we wind down the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle, I just want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and I hope everyone gets the gifts they really wanted. Stay warm and be happy. From our house to yours, we wish you a great holiday.
