The 15th annual drive-by community food drive collected 48,000 pounds for the Carson Valley Food Closet this year, according to KTVN Channel 2.

That amount topped the 34,213 pounds collected last year and exceeded the 25,000 pounds collected in Carson City at the Governor's Mansion.

The major share of the Valley's collection came from customers of the Gardnerville Raley's who purchased sacks of groceries.

The food drive is conducted at the Carson Valley Inn, where volunteers from the food closet weighed and stored the donations.
