University of Nevada, Reno, professor Eric Herzik will be Sierra Nevada Republican Women's Jan. 9 luncheon speaker at Two Guys from Italy.
Herzik is interim dean of the College of Arts and Science.
He has worked on several contract grants through the Department of Energy exploring public attitudes and economic impacts from the proposed high level nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain.
This research has produced an edited book, "Problems and Prospects for Nuclear Waste Disposal" (Greenwood, 1993), several book chapters and an article in Policy Studies Review.
Herzik has recently been tapped as a reviewer and committee alternate for The National Academy of Science, the National Research Council's Committee on the Disposal of Chemical Weapons. Within the department, he teaches a number of courses in the masters of public administration and doctorate programs. He also provides fairly regular commentary to local and state media outlets.
In addition to his publishing, Herzik often conducts contract research for various state, local and private entities through the Great Basin Policy Research Institute.
His current research projects include development of a data base of drug and alcohol use in Nevada; analysis of the impact of domestic violence laws on police personnel; and soft money impacts on elections.
