Chapter names new officers

The Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Military Officer Association of American installed its new officer for 2008 at a Military Ball and installation ceremony held on the Dec. 5 at the Elks Lodge in Reno.

Heading the group for the coming year as president is retired Navy Cdr. Tony R. Martinez; vice president is retired Nevada Army National Guard Col. Chris Anstassatos; treasurer is retired Army Lt. Col. Tom Buntin; secretary is retired Navy Cmdr. Carol Evans.

Board members include Nevada Army National Guard Maj. Warren Rapp; retired Army Col. Jack Logan; retired Navy Cmdr. Phil Silver; retired Army Col. Kathy Roehr; retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Les Schwartz and association auxiliary member Patricia Worden, MOAA Auxiliary.

"Our local chapter is proud of our service to the community by supporting the ROTC and JROTC programs, the Veterans Guest House, and serving military families in need in our community," Martinez said.

The association is the nation's leading association of military officers, with nearly 380,000 members.

Membership is open to active duty officers and warrant officers, reserves and National Guard, plus former or retired officers and warrant officers, and surviving spouses.

The Sierra Nevada Chapter is one of 425 MOAA chapters worldwide.

The local chapter was founded in 1978.
