Gardnerville robbery under investigation

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information regarding a robbery that occurred in the alley behind Smith's Food & Drug on Sunday evening.

The victim said he was taking the night deposit at about 6 p.m. from the Burger King to the Bank of America in Raley's when a man in black clothes wearing a ski mask jumped in front of his car.

When he stopped, a second man walked up to his window with a gun and demanded money.

The victim told deputies he gave the deposit bag, containing nearly $2,000 to the man with the gun.

The victim said the two men then told him not to follow them or call the police. He said he watched them run southeast toward El Dorado Drive and Toler Avenue.

The gunman was described as 6 feet tall and the other man was slightly shorter.

Douglas County Secret Witness is seeking information on any criminal activity in the Douglas County area.

n A Gardnerville man who allegedly threatened his wife with a steak knife admitted one count of assault and one count of animal cruelty on Wednesday.

Anthony Smith, 45, was arrested at 10:17 p.m. in the 600 block of Bluerock Road after deputies were called to the couple's home on a report of a battery.

Smith admitted he had been drinking when deputies arrived at his home.

His wife told them Smith threatened her with the knife after kicking the couple's mastiff in the ribs. Smith said he just threw the dog off the bed, but pleaded guilty to both charges.

Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl sentenced Smith to two 90-day consecutive jail sentences. The sentences were suspended on condition Smith attend anger management training.

n A Carson City woman who admitted to driving under the influence of methamphetamine was sentenced to a suspended 178-day jail term on Wednesday.

Shannon Ranae Millard, 35, was arrested on Highway 88 on Dec. 22 after deputies received a report of a Ford Bronco fleeing the scene of an accident.

Deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description of the Bronco and pulled over Millard.

Millard pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor driving under the influence. She told Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl that she was a drug addict. She said she had been using methamphetamine for 12 years and had been through drug rehab twice

"I'm struggling with it sir," she told EnEarl.

EnEarl ordered Millard to not use drug or alcohol for one year as a condition of her probation.

n A Gardnerville Ranchos resident said her dog found what she believed to be a human foot while walking near Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School on Dec. 19.

The investigating deputy had the foot X-Rayed and determined that the foot probably belonged to a bear.

Nevada Department of Wildlife biologist Carl Lackey was called and confirmed that the foot was really a bear paw.
